Frequent urination during pregnancy

Frequent urination in pregnancy affects most moms in very early pregnancy and decreases in the second trimester and escalates again in the third trimester. Everyone understands your recent proximity with the bathroom so don’t be too embarrassed.

Frequent urination

🧻What is frequent urination?

Frequent urination🚽 refers to your constant need to pee more often than you usually do. You may have to visit the bathroom more than seven times a day during pregnancy.🚻

Nocturia, a phenomenon of urinating two or more times overnight, is also common when you’re pregnant. Its frequency increases as pregnancy progresses.🤰

🧻Is frequent urination normal during pregnancy?

Frequent urination can start very early in pregnancy and decrease a bit in the second semester.🤰 The problem varies from one person to another depending on the position of your uterus in relation to your bladder.😃

Causes of frequent urination

🧻Increased fluids

Blood volume nearly doubles when you’re pregnant.🩸 Your kidney is more efficient at boosting waste disposal process, resulting in more fluid refill in the bladder.🌊 Hence, your kidney needs to work harder these days.

When you sleep and lie down, the fluid retained in your legs is carried to your bladder since it is no longer grounded in your lower legs and feet due to gravity. Your urine output consequently increases.🚾

🧻Hormonal changes

A high level of progesterone hormones cause your ligaments to soften and relax, including the ligaments of the urethra. Therefore, you will not be able to hold your urine much longer.🚽

🧻Growing pressure of uterus

Your baby is growing bigger everyday, so is your uterus.👶 It will put more pressure on your bladder, leaving less space for urine and increasing urges to pee.

Ways to avoid frequent urination

🧻Skip certain beverages

Limit your consumption of unhealthy beverages such as coffee, tea and soda.☕ They are all diuretics, making you pee more often.🚽

🧻Empty your bladder

When you pee, lean forward to vacate your entire bladder. Hence, your empty new bladder will be ready to be filled out again.😃

🧻Don’t hold it

For your long term health, waiting can actually weaken your pelvic floor muscles. Whenever you feel the urge, you should go to the bathroom immediately.🚾

🧻Cut back at bedtime

To limit the number of times you have to wake up going to the bathroom at night😴, you can drink plenty of fluids in the day and cut down beverages in the evening. Before going to bed, remember to pee first to make bathroom visits less frequent.🚻
