Hyperemesis gravidarum is a severe type of morning sickness that can harm both you and your baby. If you have hyperemesis gravidarum, you may need to go to the hospital for medical treatment.

Hyperemesis gravidarum

🤢What is hyperemesis gravidarum?

It is a severe form of morning sickness🤢 that is common during the first trimester. HG causes recurrent vomiting🤮, dehydration, weight loss and other complications.

🤢What are HG symptoms?

You will experience intermittent nausea, vomiting for multiple times a day, reduced appetite and aversions to food.🍲 If you can’t keep up with your food amount everyday, you are likely to lose weight, feel thirsty, urinate less often, and have cracked lips.😔

Hyperemesis gravidarum causes

🤢Increased sensitivity to smell

When you have morning sickness, your nose👃 is hypersensitive to smells and taste. It can either lead to food cravings or food aversions.

🤢Hormone levels

Rising levels of hCG hormones released by the placenta can worsen HG conditions.🙁 An increased level of progesterone also slows down the gastrointestinal tract and makes it harder to digest food.🍲

Hyperemesis gravidarum treatments

🤢IV fluids

When you experience HG, you are most likely seriously dehydrated.💉 You will be given IV fluids immediately to replenish the loss of nutrients, vitamins and fluids intravenously.😃

🤢Medication

When you can control the nauseous symptoms better, you can go home and take oral medication.💊 Follow your doctor’s prescription and advise when you get home.👩‍⚕️

🤢Dietary changes

You are recommended a special diet to mitigate nausea and vomiting.🤮 Both diet changes and medications should be taken seriously to relieve HG more effectively.😃
